If you’re wondering about the long gap between posts, I basically just haven’t had anything to show for nearly a month.
As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been struggling this whole time with IAP, and getting nowhere.
I got the IAP to work literally one time, and then it just wouldn’t work again anytime after that. I tried sooooo many things to get it working, and came up with zero results.
Unreal Engine DOES NOT play well with IAP, so screw all that. I’m just going to change the game to have an upfront cost of $0.99.
The game may not do nearly as well, but it’ll never get released at all at this rate. Had I gone with an upfront fee in the first place, the game would have been finished by now.
With that in mind, I’ve had to make some sweeping changes. I removed both the levels and the currency, as well as the shop.
You can still collect coins, but they are effectively taking the place of levels. You can both gain them and lose them as you play, and be ranked on a leaderboard depending on how many you have hoarded. I even added a visible coin hoard to the start of the level, which grows larger as you collect more coins.
I’ve changed the game so that you do not automatically crash eventually. Instead, after you collect X number of coins, you can end the game early at any time after that. If you overextend yourself and crash, you’ll lose several coins on “medical expenses”, and your score will take a hit.
Hopefully it won’t be too much longer before I can finish the game. I am a little stuck right now, because Android is the BANE OF MY EXISTENCE, and Google Play has inexplicably stopped working altogether, with me changing literally nothing since the last time it worked. The engine crashed on me, and suddenly Google Play just wasn’t working anymore.
I’ve totally burned myself out on this game, so I really can’t wait to move onto the next project. It was never supposed to have gone on this long.
